It had also been suggested Murdoch might fit the profile of Perth’s triple-murderer Claremont serial killer, who operated in 1996–97. He did not. He was in jail for the Fitzroy Crossing shoot-up when two of the Claremont girls went missing. Police have discounted him.

SOURCES
Paul Toohey relied on material from his own attendance at the Brad Murdoch committal and trial, and his subsequent coverage of the story in The Australian and The Bulletin. He also drew upon numerous interviews and police statements held as court records. Most of his sources do not wish to be publicly acknowledged. However, Paul does wish to thank James Hepi for his full and fearless accounts. Mr Hepi could have made a tidy sum selling his story but chose to risk telling it to Paul for no reward.
