  Mikayla

I sighed, sadness settling deep within my chest as I stared up at the gym I now owned. This was supposed to be a happy time for me. Everything was set up. I was ready to open now.

Excitement should have been thrumming through my veins.

Instead, I felt like shit. I’d rather have them back than have this gym.

I had my parents to thank for this moment in my life—being able to open my own business—but I wish they’d been alive to give me the loan rather than me using the inheritance I’d gotten from their death.

They’d been taken from me so unexpectedly. I’d even been on the phone with my mom when it happened. She’d been so excited about the date Dad had planned for the two of them and was gushing to me about it while Dad drove them to the restaurant.

Even now, ten months later, I could still hear the crunching of metal and their screams as if it were happening all over again.

Blinking back tears, I drew in a deep, calming breath before making my way across the lane to the gym to open the doors for its very first day. I already had people with memberships from the deals I’d hosted and advertised the past couple of months while I worked my ass off to get this place going in a very short amount of time. So, I wasn’t opening without a steady income flowing in.

“Mikayla!” Lennox called, waving at me as she rushed across the parking lot. She was the first employee I hired, and she hadn’t even cared that it would be a while before we opened for business. While I hired other employees over time to begin work the first week, Lennox was the only one I began paying immediately due to her enthusiasm for my gym. She’d been here with me every single day, seven days a week, helping me set up and prepare. And she hadn’t complained once.

Making her my assistant manager had been a no-brainer.

“Hey!” I waved at her, a smile tilting my lips. “Ready for our first day?”

“Hell yes, I am!” she gushed. “I’ve been dying for a decent gym to get opened in this tiny ass town. You’re a fuckin’ genius for doing it, girl! I had three people ask me if we were finally opening today while I was grabbing breakfast for us.” She handed me a paper bag that smelled so good, my stomach rumbled. “It’s not healthy, but eh. We deserve an unhealthy breakfast after the hard work we’ve been putting in.”

I laughed and headed into my office, setting the breakfast she’d gotten me on my desk. “You’ve definitely got that right. And since you treated me to breakfast, I’ll treat you to lunch.”

She made a moaning sound as she bit into her breakfast sandwich. “Oooh, yes, girl. Please. Thank you. I don’t even care what you get.”

I snickered. If there was anything in the world Lennox loved, it was food. She could put away a good bit of it and still look like a million fucking dollars.

I settled into my desk chair so I could quickly eat my breakfast while Lennox stuffed the rest of her food in her mouth. After, she quickly dipped out of my office and began working. I knew Lennox would handle anyone that came in while I scarfed down the delicious-smelling food she’d gotten—

“Lennox, you’re the fucking best!” I yelled as I unwrapped the chicken biscuit. She’d even had egg and cheese added to it. Fuck, this was heavenly. Nothing better than my favorite breakfast food to celebrate my opening day.

“I know!” she yelled back, making me laugh.

I smiled and shook my head. If my day continued like this, it would be a really good day, and I couldn’t wait to experience it. I needed something to pick me up after the sadness that had been cloaking me for the past few days.

“Lennox, I’m going to get lunch!” I called. She was teaching an older woman how to operate the treadmill, but she glanced up at me for a moment before smiling and waving me off.

The sky was overcast with dark, ominous clouds when I stepped outside. I huffed, glaring up at the sky. My mood had been lightening by the hour, but the dark clouds overhead were practically mocking me.

I sighed. If there was anything living in this town had taught me, it was that the weather was extremely unpredictable and could turn on someone in a mere second.

Hell, they hadn’t even predicted rain today! But those clouds told me it was going to pour.

Grumbling, I made my way to my car and slid into the driver’s seat before heading to the Chinese take-out restaurant next to Tractor Supply. By the time I made it the few miles down the road to the restaurant, it was already beginning to rain, so I quickly rushed out of my car and ran under the awning.

And proceeded to slam into a warm, brick wall.

“Ugnh.” Warm hands grasped my upper arms to steady me, and I snapped my head up, any apology I’d been about to give dying in my throat.

Holy fucking shit balls. I didn’t even know men this gorgeous existed anymore.

The guy standing in front of me had messy brown hair with a trimmed beard covering his jawline. Gorgeous blue eyes stared back down at me, roving over my face and drinking me in the same way I was drinking him in. His fingers were warm and calloused, and his biceps were thick. He had the body of a hard worker instead of a bodybuilder, and fuck, could I appreciate the hell out of that.

“You okay?” he rumbled, slowly releasing me once he realized I was steady on my feet.

I nodded, tucking my blonde hair behind my ears. “I, uh, yeah,” I stammered. Christ, I never tripped over my words. I was always confident and sure of myself. But this man had managed to scramble my brain cells. “I’m so sorry for running into you.” I waved my hand toward the parking lot. “It’s just raining and—”

He chuckled. “Calm down, goldie.” My eyes snapped up to his in surprise. I’d gotten used to being called blondie all the time because of my very blonde hair, but goldie was different.

And I liked the way his southern accent drawled the word.

“You here getting lunch?” he asked as he pressed his massive hand to my lower back and gently steered me to the line.

I nodded like a stupid bobblehead. “Yeah. I just opened the new gym in town—Training Ground—and I decided to treat my assistant manager to lunch since she brought me breakfast this morning,” I overexplained, but eh. That was one of my worst traits. When I got nervous, which was rare, I always overexplained everything.

He flashed me a smile so fucking gorgeous, I forgot what words were for a moment. Jesus. He was horrible for my brain.

“Training Ground, huh? I heard talk of a new gym. Maybe I’ll come check it out.”

I beamed at him. “Really?” That was probably way too enthusiastic, but fuck it. I was going all in now. “If you have any friends, please spread the word.”

He chuckled. “I will, but only because you’re adorable as fuck when you’re excited.”

Cue my ovaries exploding. Just boom. Gone. Poof.

My cheeks heated, and I nervously tucked my hair behind my ear. “Are you flirting with me?” I boldly asked, hoping I wouldn’t make a huge dumbass of myself for doing so.

He hummed, a devilish smirk tilting his lips. “I am. Is it working?”

I laughed, already at ease again. There was just something about this man that settled me. “It would if I knew your name.”

He winked at me. “Beau Justice. Proud member of the Storm Hogs MC and one of the owners of Storm Hogs Construction.”

My eyes widened. I hadn’t realized he was basically the town’s royalty. I couldn’t go anywhere without someone talking about the club or the construction company. “This town worships you guys.”

He snickered and gently grabbed my arm to turn me around. I cringed when I realized the line was basically gone. Damn, had I been that captivated by him? His lips hovered at my ear, and I froze, my heart skipping a beat in my chest. My belly clenched. Christ, how did he smell so good when he was sweaty and covered in dirt and dust? “Stick around, goldie,

and maybe you’ll see why,” he murmured.

With that, he gave me a gentle push to the window so I could order my food.

“Dude, could you have taken any longer?” Remi grumbled when I walked into the building we were renovating with two bags of food with three styrofoam containers in each. “I thought you decided to run away and never come back.”

I rolled my eyes and thrust his bag of food at him. Remi was known for being overdramatic, and not only that, but much like Elliot, he didn’t seem to know when to be serious. Sometimes it was funny; other times, it could be downright annoying. “Stop being so fucking overdramatic and just eat, Remi.”

I handed everyone else their food before sitting my ass on the dusty floor and leaning my back against the wall. Shit, I was tired, but today was going to be yet another day with a shit ton of overtime put in. “So, what did take so long?” Harlan asked, ever the curious one.

“Y’all are some nosy mother fuckers,” Adler said, glancing at Harlan before focusing back on his food. “Maybe he wanted a damn breath of fresh air away from you and Remi breathing down his fucking neck.”

I snorted. “Nah. I actually ran into the owner of the new gym in town—Training Ground.”

“What’s he like? Heard it was a new guy in town opening it,” Elliot said before shoving food into his mouth.

“She,” I corrected, “is actually really nice. And she is new to town. Definitely don’t recall seeing her around before.” I would’ve remembered a gorgeous blonde like her. Slim and fit. Pretty blue eyes. Fuck, she was just my type.

“Shit, it’s a woman that opened it?” Remi asked. He whistled. “Is she hot?”

I narrowed my eyes at him, something akin to jealousy and possessiveness slithering through my veins almost like poison. It was a foreign feeling to me, but something about Mikayla had hooked me from the get-go. She wasn’t even mine yet, but I sure as fuck wasn’t sharing her.

“Back the fuck off, Remi,” I snapped at him.

  Remi barked out a laugh.

“Ooooh, sounds like someone has a crush,” Harlan sang.

I threw a noodle at him, which smacked him right on the forehead. He grimaced. “Fuck off. Both of you,” I muttered.

Harlan and Remi snickered, but Elliot shot me a knowing look. I sighed. If his look was anything to go by, it meant I was already a fucking goner after just meeting her once.

I was fucked. And I wasn’t sure how I felt about that because I was not in the business of settling down.

A man like me wanted his options open. But damn if I wasn’t going to see how close I could get to her.

The shower beating down on my tense muscles felt blissful after the hard day I’d just had. I hated rush jobs, even if they did pay exceptionally well. It just meant hours upon hours of back-breaking work. Which was why I was just now getting into the shower at nine at night.

Sighing, I turned the water off and stepped out onto the black bath mat. I’d had plans to check out the gym after work—and hopefully run into Mikayla while I was out—but I wasn’t sure if I could manage it. I’d forgotten to ask for her name earlier, but I’d gotten it from the kid working the window when it was my turn to order and get my food.

Mikayla’s smile suddenly popped into my mind, the way it was like sunshine beaming on me. I could still feel the way her soft breasts felt pressed against my chest. How soft her skin was beneath my palms.

Fuck it. I was going to that damn gym. Didn’t matter how damn tired I was.

I quickly donned a pair of sweats and a t-shirt before heading out of my room. Harlan and Remi had already turned in for the night, and Adler, Seb, and Elliot had gone straight home from work. These days, the clubhouse was quieter than it ever had been, but it was nice. I loved seeing my brothers find their perfect women and raise beautiful families. And I loved those kids to pieces.

Didn’t mean I wanted any of my own, but nieces and nephews were perfect. I could return them whenever I got tired of them.

After pulling my bike keys out of my pocket, I walked out of the clubhouse doors and over to the bikes. Once the engine was started and my helmet was strapped to my head, I pulled off the gravel lot and hit the highway into Sandersville.

Here was to hoping the woman occupying all my thoughts today was still working.

I wasn’t sure how someone managed to accomplish giving a warm, soothing vibe in a gym, but damn if Mikayla hadn’t accomplished just that. I didn’t feel dreadful walking through the glass doors of her gym. I felt at ease. The lights were dim but not to the point it was hard to see, soft rock music played from the speakers overhead, and the walls were done in darker tones.

“Hey!” Mikayla exclaimed as she popped out of her office. She looked tired but happy and still just as beautiful as she’d been earlier. “I didn’t expect you to come today.”

I shrugged, a smile tilting my lips. “My curiosity got the best of me. Mind giving me a tour?”

“Of course!” She stepped up to my side and began walking me around the gym, telling me her vision as she went. She was so beautiful and animated as she talked that I didn’t dare open my mouth for fear of ruining the excitement she had thrumming through her. It was beautiful. Captivating.

An artist would kill to paint her like this.

“Was my tour enough to convince you to get a membership?” she asked once we were beside her office door, her eyes sparkling. There was a teasing note to her voice, but I could tell she was serious, too. And why shouldn’t she be? She was running a business.

I hummed and glanced around before looking back at her. “If I sign a membership, what do I get in return?”

Her cheeks flushed the slightest bit red. My heart skipped a beat in my chest. I desperately wanted to see the other parts of her body turn that color too as I worshipped her.

I bet she’d taste like pure sin.

“What would you like?” she asked, her voice a bit breathy and low.

Christ, she was killing my cock. It was a miracle she hadn’t noticed how hard I was.

Unable to help myself, I stepped closer to her, settling a hand on her hip. Her breath hitched in her throat. “How about a date?” I asked her, shooting my shot. I didn’t like wasting time. When I saw someone I wanted, I went after them full-speed ahead.

She licked her lips. My gaze flicked to them for a moment before I forced my eyes back on her stunning blue eyes. That rare color was now my favorite, and I knew it could never be replicated.

“A date it is,” she murmured.

I winked at her and stepped back. “Tell me where to sign up, goldie.”

With her cheeks even more scarlet than before, she turned and led me into her office.

I took the opportunity to admire her ass from behind, and I had to bite back a groan. Because while she was slim, her ass was perky and juicy. My teeth tingled with the urge to gently bite into the soft flesh.

  Fuck.

  Three

  Beau

Work had been absolutely insane for the past week, which meant I hadn’t had the opportunity to take Mikayla on a date yet nor find the energy to even go to the gym to see her. Despite being worked to the bone though, she and I were texting all the time. Getting to know her like we were a couple of teens was honestly kind of nice. Mikayla was sweet and kind, but she also wasn’t afraid to speak her mind. Which meant she would fit in well with the Storm Hogs MC’s ladies.

I shook my head. Thinking like that was dangerous. I wasn’t ready for commitment. Wasn’t ready to settle down with a woman either.

The battle was tough though because I was hooked on her. Fucking drowning. My thoughts were consumed by her.
