  A Fateful Meeting

Detached and aloof, a courtly handsome man in his early twenties. Call him Wang Shuyu. Rich, thriving, triumphant—a few adjectives to describe him.

One evening night in a pub, Wang Shuyu, in a full black suit and bowtie, sits in a VIP room surrounded by a group of acquaintances from his college days. Dominating a corner of the room, he sits with his legs crossed, back leaned against on a couch, sipping on a glass of vodka. His friends, who aren’t really friends, are on the other side of the room surrounded by women, getting drunk with lust and alcohol.

"Wang Shuyu, you sure you don't want a lady for company?" Hu Xixun looks over with a foxy grin.

"Don't bother him,” Li Chen, another acquaintance, chimes in. He steals a glance at the domineering man before saying, “It's miraculous enough that he's here."

"By the way,” Xixun turns to Li Chen and asks, “is Xiao Sheng still here?"

"Yeah, I told him to wait in another room. He’s driving me home later."

"I got these new drugs. Can I try it on him? I've been chasing him for these past few weeks, and he still tries to avoid me. I'm also curious how strong these drugs are. They’re new."

With a slight frown, Li Chen refuses, "Although his family is dependent on mine, letting you drug him is crossing a line."

"Come on!” Xixun hooks an arm around Li Chen's neck. “It's not like I'll hurt him badly or anything. I just want to play."

"No. Sheng-ge has always been kind to me. I can't let you do that."

"How about this? If you let me, I'll do you any favor in return. Didn't you say you like Lilin? I can help with that."

Tempted, Li Chen becomes reluctant, and Xixun who notices the reluctance on Li Chen’s face starts to urge even more. "Come on. You're not doing anything wrong here. If anyone's wrong, it’s only me. I won't let anyone know you’re involved."

On the side, Wang Shuyu listens nonchalantly. And no, he’s not eavesdropping. He can close his eyes, but he can't close his ears to the atrocious conversation happening next to him. Grew up in a circle full of vindictive people who commit selfish acts and get away with it because money can erase all wrongdoings, this isn't the first time Wang Shuyu witnesses these types of conversations. In fact, it’s a norm in elite circles. Not so clean himself, he knows the wicked ways money and power work. It's just that this specific circle is all about women, sex, and drugs, which aren't his thing. He wouldn't be in this after-party if the relationships with these people are not required for various parties' businesses to prosper.

"Okay . . .” Li Chen finally gives in to Xixun. “He's four doors away from here to the left."

"That's it man! You can take these ladies for the night since Xiao Sheng won't be driving you home." Xixun pats Li Chen’s shoulder enthusiastically before he stands up and leaves the room.

For the time being, Wang Shuyu remains seated in the same pose. He's not sure how much time has passed, but it has been long enough that leaving now and arriving home is appropriate timing. And thus, he ascends up to full height amongst all the chaos going on in the room.

"You're leaving?" asks Yicheng, another acquaintance in the room. In his arm, a woman constantly kisses his neck trying to keep his attention, as if a moment without his attention is torment.

"Mnn," Wang Shuyu hums a reply, not giving a glance. He finds his way to the door and steps out. Before he can take five steps away from the door he just exited, a faint groaning voice from behind calls for his attention. He looks back and sees a young man in a white T-shirt paired with light blue jeans. Judging by the way he appears, the young man just collapsed due to intoxication. Sitting on the floor of the hallway, his frail body leans on the wall for support.

"Help me," he utters with pleading eyes, his face flushing in a rich rosy color. Beautiful—a word Wang Shuyu would use to describe this stranger. For a moment, it is as if time has stopped. He holds eye contact, getting lost inside the eyes of the beautiful stranger and it's like this stranger is unwilling to let him find his way out. Wang Shuyu stands still, facing a moment that doesn’t quite feel real. Strange how he has never met him before but feels like he did.

The moment is interrupted when Xixun emerges from a door and staggers toward the beautiful stranger. Seeing Xixun, Wang Shuyu quickly grasps the situation. The owner of those mesmerizing eyes must be Xiao Sheng, the person Xixun and Li Chen talked about earlier. Xixun proceeds to grab Xiao Sheng's arm, trying to pull him up from the ground. At the same time, Wang Shuyu turns away from the scene and walks away, leisurely with a hand in his pocket. After all, this matter has nothing to do with him. However, before he turns around the corner, that voice comes again.

"Help me! . . . please!" Xiao Sheng tries desperately to reach the man walking away, simultaneously attempting to undo Xixun's grip on his arm. In his mind he pleads for someone, please anyone, to help him get away from this disgusting person. Suddenly, Xixun pulls him up and has him against the wall.

“Get off me!” Xiao Sheng tries to push Xixun away but with his current condition, his strength falls short. “Get away from me!”

Wang Shuyu can close his eyes to all atrocities, but it seems like he really can't close his ears. He sighs. In a swift, he turns back. Marching with long strides, he arrives by Xixun and Xiao Sheng in no time. His large hand grips on Xixun's wrist—the wrist that is holding on to Xiao Sheng.

"Wang Shuyu!" Xixun hisses irately but seems more so shocked.

"Take your hands off this person." Wang Shuyu looks Xixun in the eyes, and slightly tilts his head toward Xiao Sheng, gesturing for him to be let go of.

"What's gotten into you? You never meddle in other people’s business! This has nothing to do with you, so don’t meddle!"

"I said take your hands off this person," Wang Shuyu repeats, now with a glare in his eyes. His grip on Xixun's wrist tightens.

"Wang Shuyu, what do you think you're d—" Before more words come out of Xixun, a fierce hook lands on his face. He staggers from the sudden force and falters to the ground. With blurry vision that he can’t shake off, he’s unable to get up while the taste of blood swells up in his mouth.

"You should've known better. I don't like to repeat myself." Wang Shuyu looks down coldly as he adjusts his blazer that shifted up due to his action just now. His attention then turns to the beautiful stranger who can barely stand on his own feet. He grabs his arms and assists him off the wall.

"Wait . . . W-Where are you taking me?" Xiao Sheng manages to ask through his dazed consciousness.

"Where's your house? I can take you there." Wang Shuyu holds Xiao Sheng's arm and proceeds to drag him through the hallway. Dizzy and fuzzy, the loud music pounds in Xiao Sheng's head when they pass the dance floor. Now on top of feeling dizzy, he feels like he's losing his flow of thoughts, barely able to piece things in a logical order. The question asked earlier by the man who saved him, he’s trying to put together an answer for that. He still remembers where he lives but there’s a bad feeling in him that says he can’t go home in this current condition—it will only concern his uncle. Furthermore, feeling this sick, he won’t be able to fulfill his duty of taking Li Chen home safely.

Perhaps, he should go to the hospital?

He rather not. That'll only make him lose money. And it’s embarrassing going there feeling this type of way.

  So where should he go?

There's no place to go. Xiao Sheng wants to laugh at his life. How disappointing it is that in time of need, there’s no one and nowhere to turn to.

Before he can finish that train of thoughts, Wang Shuyu has already taken him out to the parking lot. Gentle is what Xiao Sheng feels with the way Wang Shuyu guides him into the passenger seat and wraps the seatbelt around his body.

“Where do you live?” The door remains open as Wang Shuyu waits for an answer.

"Take me somewhere safe," he answers finally, not looking at the handsome man in the eyes. He has his head lowered, facing his legs.

"Anywhere with me is unsafe," Wang Shuyu says before he closes the passenger's door.

"What's your home address?" he asks again once he’s in the car, seated behind the wheel, insisting on sending the beautiful stranger home.

Xiao Sheng refuses to answer, and it leads them to sit silently—silence between two strangers wh

o doesn’t know each other at all. Yet from the side, Xiao Sheng feels a constant stare. A rather intense stare. Nonetheless, the stubborn Xiao Sheng continues to keep his head down, now with his hand covering his forehead; not because of the stare but more so because of the drugs messing with his head.

Enough of the silence, Wang Shuyu utters, "Alright. Somewhere safe."

The black Mercedes Benz plunges off into the night, fiercely like its owner. Roughly an hour later, it parks inside a private parking lot under a luxurious condominium. Wang Shuyu undoes his seatbelt and steps out of the car. He walks around to the other side and opens the passenger's door. Naturally, his eyes scan the drugged stranger, checking his condition. Although they both sit silently throughout the car ride, he consistently looked at him and noticed that as time passes, the drugs are taking a massive toll on the unfortunate person.

Currently, Xiao Sheng breathes heavily with a flushed face, biting his own lips, eyes barely open. He isn't in the right mind to get out of the car himself. And so, Wang Shuyu unbuckles the seatbelt around Xiao Sheng and helps him out of the car. He places one of Xiao Sheng's arms over his shoulder and walks him to the private elevator provided. They enter the elevator and get on their way to the 14th floor.

"I-I feel hot. W-Why is it so hot in here?" Xiao Sheng murmurs, moving back and forth, unable to relax. “Wh-Where are you taking me?”

"Stay still. You're drugged," Wang Shuyu says as he tries to get the person leaning on him to stop fidgeting.

In fact, Wang Shuyu doesn't know why he's helping this stranger. He usually, actually, never cares about other people's business. It’s true what Xixun said earlier. He never meddles in other people’s affairs. Him meddling with anything comes with a great cost. Therefore, if a matter has nothing to do with him, he has no interest or whatsoever, but here he is, taking a stranger back to his room—a beautiful one.

But if Wang Shuyu is to think about it in a different way, if he sees a cat with a broken leg trying to cross the street and a car is approaching, he will help the cat to cross, right? Not quite, he would have to think about it first.

Wang Shuyu pulls out a keycard and opens the door. Automatically, bright lights turn on. He lays the barely conscious guest on the sofa, a white leather L-shaped sofa occupying the right side of the living room. He lowers down and takes off the drugged man’s shoes and socks. Neatly, he places them on the shoe rack. He comes back to the drugged person. With two fingers, he touches his forehead, measuring his temperature.

Although still light-headed, Xiao Sheng knows everything that’s going on. An odd feeling forms as he watches a complete stranger tenderly taking care of him. It doesn't happen often—someone taking care of him.

Wang Shuyu leaves to the left area of the living room and opens a door to the bathroom. He goes in and turns on the cold-water faucet in the tub. He stays in there for a while, waiting for the water to fill up the pearl white bathtub. Once it’s filled, he walks out of the bathroom to go get the stranger he left on the couch.

"Come here," he says to Xiao Sheng once their eyes meet.

"Where is this place?" Xiao Sheng asks.

A cautious person by nature, Xiao Sheng is careful with everyone he meets. However, so far, the stranger in front of him hasn't given off any threatening vibes. He doesn't know why too but he feels like the man in front of him doesn’t have malicious intentions toward him. If he does, he would not have helped him from Xixun, right? Xiao Sheng’s logical mind slowly returns as the dizziness lessens, but now his body temperature is steadily rising, and he finds himself needing something else.

"If you want to feel better, then listen to me. Come here." Wang Shuyu motions with his finger, telling Xiao Sheng to come to him.

There’s no reason to obey or not obey. Xiao Sheng chooses to obey. Slowly he gets up and walks to Wang Shuyu. Almost—he almost trips over himself due to his dazed mind, but Wang Shuyu grabs his arm in time to keep him standing.

"Go sit inside the tub." Wang Shuyu gently pushes him toward the tub. However, in a confused state, Xiao Sheng looks at Wang Shuyu for clarifications, unsure of why he must go in the tub. It is just now that he properly sees Wang Shuyu’s face, now that they are face to face with one of Wang Shuyu's hands holding his arm. Handsome. A simple word for him. Those fierce but gentle eyes that can pierce into one's soul, it makes Xiao Sheng want to stare a bit longer if it isn’t rude.

"Didn't you say you were feeling hot? I put on cool water," Wang Shuyu clarifies to the confused face.

Understanding, Xiao Sheng nods his head awkwardly, and then carefully he steps into the tub. Once seated, he looks around the bathroom and notices how luxurious it is. He can even sleep in here. It's bigger than his bedroom. Just then, his thoughts are interrupted when Wang Shuyu asks, "You know what to do next right?"

"What to do next?" Xiao Sheng repeats the words he heard, as he didn't fully understand what the handsome man meant. Wang Shuyu, on the other hand, thinks it is a question, thinking how innocent this stranger Xiao Sheng is if he doesn’t know what to do next.

As if his eyes are deceiving him, for a quick second, Xiao Sheng sees the corner of the handsome man's mouth curl into a smile, almost looking like a smirk—deviously charming. At the same time, Wang Shuyu crouches down. He leans closer, their faces on the same level as he looks intently into Xiao Sheng’s nervous eyes.

"You need to help yourself . . . jerk off," he says in a low voice, almost a whisper. "I thought you would've known by now the kind of drugs you are drugged with. Since when we were in the car to this moment now, your temperature, your facial expressions, and your crotch—" Wang Shuyu's eyes follow his words and now his eyes are at where his words are, causing Xiao Sheng to immediately curl up his legs to cover himself. Just now, Xiao Sheng realizes how exposed he is. His white, drenched T-shirt that is almost see-through. Worse is his drenched, light blue jeans. Clearly, earlier when the handsome man has his eyes on his crotch, it was bulging.

"But if you are still unsure of what I'm talking about, I can help you do it," Wang Shuyu suggests with a faint, barely noticeable smile. As he moves his face closer, Xiao Sheng's originally red face manages to get redder. He doesn't know if it's due to the drugs, embarrassment, nervousness, or the presence of the handsome man, but these feelings are making it worse for his self-control. He's old enough to understand what his body needs, but for a stranger to bluntly say such a thing to him, plus the way he said it and the way he looked at him when he said it, those actions are tugging at something deep inside of him.

Satisfied with the teasing, Wang Shuyu stands up and backs away from the incredibly red-face person. "Rest assured, I'm just teasing you. I'll leave now." He takes one last glance at the person in the tub before he walks out, gently closing the door.

"Just teasing . . . ?" Xiao Sheng feels his heart beating uncontrollably. It’s beating for something and so many things at the same time. Without further ado, he gets on to his businesses.

  A Fateful Meeting II

After Wang Shuyu closes the bathroom door, he walks to a small staircase that goes up to the bedroom. As he walks, he undoes a few buttons of his white dress shirt, then casually takes off his suit jacket. Upon reaching the bedroom, he hangs the jacket on one of the hooks. He takes off his socks and finally feels a little at home.
